Aura Care Living are to put on a series of events in Cirencester during Dementia Awareness Week.
The luxury retirement and care home company, that are in the process of constructing a village in Cirencester that boasts 31, one, two and two plus bedroom apartments, are hitting the streets of the town and will have a market stall on Monday 15th of May, packed full of information and help for those affected by the disease. They are also hosting a virtual reality dementia tour of at their cabin in Stratton on Thursday 18th of May and on Saturday 20th May they are holding a charity tea party, once again at the Stratton Court cabin.
Dementia Awareness Week runs 14-20 May and was set up by the Alzheimer’s Society. They are asking everyone across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to unite against dementia.
“Dementia is set to be the 21st century's biggest killer. But awareness and understanding remains low and many families are facing it alone, said Aura director, Peter Lloyd.
“We have dementia specialists in our team and are especially pleased to have the virtual reality dementia tour; it is medically and scientifically proven to be the closest that we can give a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like. By understanding dementia from the person's point of view we can change practice, reduce issues and improve their lives.
It is a truly scary but it can really help you understand dementia by walking in the shoes of a person with the disease. It is a bigger killer than heart disease of cancer, that’s why, we want everyone to come together and take action,” Peter added.
